Album Title: Prime
Artist: Lance Prime
Released: 12th July 2019
Date: 16th July 2019
Lance Prime is the latest addition to the UK RnB scene; and his long-awaited 2019 album ‘Prime’ further demonstrates his unique take on this music genre.
It’s apparent throughout the album he has been significantly influenced by 90s RnB artists; with many tracks being reminiscent of Boys II Men. And yet, whilst there are similarities and familiarities to the Old School tunes, his unique approach is stamped over every track. Lance Prime’s articulate pronunciation teamed with RnB vibes and associated slang brings an unheard mix that actually works! He challenges stereotypes and opens up the genre to a whole new cohort; proving invaluable to an overcrowded industry. Skip to ‘Whine’ or ‘Puppy Love’ for perfect examples of Lance’s RnB interpretations; but perhaps miss ‘Women’ which does nothing to challenge existing RnB stereotypes.
Lance’s album is jam packed with collaborations; including Nina Alexis, Yung Saber and Danni Jackson.
Overall, Lance Prime should be proud of his latest album. It challenges stereotypes, demonstrates good writing ability and has some catchy tunes; perfect for easy summer listening. Watch this space!
You’ll love this album if:
- You are a 90’s child at heart
- You love Boys II Men, New Edition, Jodeci to name a few
This album might not be for you if:
- If Old School RnB to you means more Usher or LL Cool J, this may be slightly disappointing but still worth a listen.
